Self Management Techniques
Instances of neck and back pain are very common, with as many as sixty percent of the British population reporting that they’ve experienced back pain at some point in their lives. Neck and back pain can come from a variety of causes, including whiplash as a result of a car accident, lifting something too heavy, bad posture, gaining weight, or simply getting older. The vast majority neck and back problems will sort themselves out in time, but in many cases those that are suffering may not be doing all they can to help the recovery process. In fact, many sufferers may be working against the recovery without even knowing it.
A common misconception about neck and back pain is that rest is the best therapy, when the truth is that the opposite is true. While it is reasonable to rest for a day or two following an injury when the pain is at its worst, getting up and moving is the best way to start the recovery process. In this vein, there are a number of self management techniques that those suffering from neck and back pain can follow to help cope with the pain and get on with their lives.
